Ghana’s electoral commission has recognized a new political party by Peoples National Convention’s defeated candidate Hassan Ayariga.

The man who gained his popular nick named “Ayaricough” for his artificial coughs in an Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) debate in the run up to the 2012 elections decided to form his party after his defeat in Wa.

Mr. Ayaricough has accused his former party of favouritism which led to his defeat by veteran PNC leader, Dr Edward Mahama, who used the victory to stage a political come back.

The PNC’s national delegates congress was marred with controversy. Prior to the election a member of the party had sought a court injunction to stop the national congress from coming off.

On an interesting note, people are questioning the creativity of the man who calls himself the :Supreme Leader” for using the name and logo of President Muhammadu Buhari’s APC in Nigeria. He is using the name “All Peoples Congress” with the symbolic broom as logo.

The party is scheduled to be launched this week to contest in the 2016 presidential race even though the current PNC chairman, Mr. Bernard Mornah says he is speaking with his former flag bearer (Mr. Ayariga) to change his mind and come back to the PNC.

By this move the number of licensed political parties come to 26.
