Prospects appear great for gospel singer and stylist, Monica Adu Gyamfi, who is set to launch her debut album ‘Come to Jesus’ on Saturday June 4 at La Briche, Saint Denis.

Monica2This first album release is laced with smooth melodies and a soft touch of mild nostalgia with a remarkable embracing subtlety. The eight-track collection contains inspirational tunes, some of which are getting a lot of airplay, like the title track ‘Come to Jesus’ and ‘Alons-y’ which, I believe, will soon be a local anthem. It’s a refreshing collection of delightful melodies with an eclectic scope to accommodate every taste.

According to Monica, the inspiration for this eight-song playlist is a dedication to God and the Brethren who encouraged her in the Macedonia local assembly of the Church of Pentecost where she is worship leader. The quality of the songs are beyond expectations for a neophyte making her first foray into the industry. As I listened to them, I noticed how each song is magnificently structured….a unique way to create an emotional roller-coaster, deeply moving, unadorned and peculiar….a real pleasant surprise.

In a musical setting that is familiar to fans of gospel music, Monica’s music, comes a uniquely ethnic approach to gospel songs with an expanded sound that combines smooth melodies, reminiscent of the songs in a church setting. She sings with a style reflective of the genre, exquisitelyarranged to produce something that is extraordinarily breathtaking.
Monica said she is elated that the album will not only introduce her to the local gospel music environment, but also help people come to Jesus.

Rating this album was a joyful exercise for me and I’m delighted to recommend this album. Let it find a unique place in your music collection. This is one of the most unusual and emotional and musical voices I’ve ever heard in a while. There’s something preternaturally soothing about Monica’svoice… It seems to arrive from a distance, high and serene, with a hint of reediness and a humble quaver, proffering melodies like lullabies… Her music is as approachable as it is ethereal.

On slower, more pensive tunes like‘Nyame Do Ne Mma’,and the mid-tempo sweet French track ‘Alons-y’ she pushes her voice to its limits, issuing waves of emotion that are as reflective as they are spiritual… certain times lilting, polished but also elemental – didn’t need language to communicate…Monica’s music is delicate. Her art requires and merits close attention… ….Monica’s songs, unadorned and deeply moving, are just simply unique and guaranteed to leave a cultural footprint in the Diaspora.

This event  equally features a list of distinguished and noteworthy performers of the gospel scene in France, is worth investing your Saturday afternoon in. It will be electric and full of joyful exuberance;  YOU WOULDN’T WANT TO MISS THIS!
