Know Ms. Anna Bossman the appointed Ghana’s Ambassador to France

What is your aim, your ambition, at the head of the Ghana Embassy in France?
There is no doubt that France is today at the forefront of world leadership and thus for me very simply my goal to promote stronger political, socio-economic and cultural ties between Ghana and France. To encourage and succeed in getting French investors to come and invest and set up companies in Ghana, in particular for French investments in Ghana’s tourism industry. Also for Ghanaian investors to partner with French companies. This will among other things, be a good creator of jobs for French and Ghanaians. Besides, Ghana, being an English speaking African country is in a unique geographic position of being surrounded by French speaking African countries, Ghana is also a positive influence in ECOWAS. We strongly believe that stronger ties with France will impact very positively in dealing with challenging issues within the sub region.

Ms. Anna Bossman (born 1 December 1957) is a Ghanaian human rights advocate.  She is currently the appointed Ghana’s Ambassador to France.
She attended Holy Child School and Achimota School for her high-school education. She graduated from the University of Ghana with a Law and Political Science degree and from the Ghana School of Law in 1980.

She is currently the director for Integrity and Anti-Corruption Department (IACD) of the African Development Bank (AfDB). Ms. Anna Bossman was once the Deputy Commissioner of Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice from the year 2002 to 2010 where she was appointed Acting Commissioner.

She was formerly married to Burkina Faso’s former prime minister candidate, Pierre Claver Damiba and they had a daughter.

Ms. Anna Bossman is the Director of Integrity and Anti-Corruption (IACD) of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB). IACD carries out investigations into allegations of fraud and corruption and other malpractices in operations financed by the AfDB and investigations into allegations of misconduct involving staff members of the Bank. The office also develops preventive measures to proactively reduce the potential for misconduct, fraud or corruption in AfDB financed operations.

Ms. Bossman is credited with instituting the Bank’s novel approach to negotiated settlements which resulted in the levying of penalties on international companies and individuals which had been found to have been involved in sanctionable practices in Bank Group operations. From 2014 to date as a result of IACD’s investigations, penalties imposed are in excess of $50 million US.

Before her appointment at the AfdB in July 2011, Ms. Bossman was Ag Chair of Ghana’s Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice. Ms. Bossman began her legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in Ghana’s Ministry of Justice. She later went into private practice before embarking on a twenty five (25) year career in the oil and gas industry and the energy sector serving in legal, negotiations, managerial and consultancy capacities with major international oil and gas companies in Gabon, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Angola and Ghana.

In 1997, she founded Bossman Consultancy Ltd (BCL) providing legal and business advisory services to public and private sector clients in the oil gas and energy sector.

A lawyer and an ardent human rights and anti-corruption activist, her interests are in governance, promotion of integrity, and women and children’s rights. Ms. Bossman is a recipient of a number of awards including; “Chevalier de l’Ordre du Merite Gabonais” and the “Medaille du Travail” conferred by the Gabonese Government, “Chevalier dans l’Ordre National du Merite” awarded by the French government, Ghana Women’s achievers Award 2008 for excellence in Human Rights and the Law (Ghana National Honorary Awards of Fame), NETRIGHT award for outstanding contribution to the progress of women in Ghana. Corruption Hunters Integrity Award (World Bank International Corruption Hunters Alliance 2010) and Winner of GPA Award for Law 2010.
