Nkosuohene Nana Baffour

Nkosuohene Nana Baffour

The evening of 10th August 2013 at La Briche-Saint Denis a suburb of Paris, marked the Final Funeral Rites of Maame Adjoa Nkrumah, the mother-in-law of Nana kwaku Noble. It was an impressive occassion for most of the Ghanaian community in Europe converging to Paris for the ceremony.

The dress code was red and black to respect custom and as usual, GIF News was there to cover the whole ceremony. Mr Osei James Adu of SDA Church Paris said the prayer to open, after which all the customary rites followed. It was a night to remember, a real colourful display of our Ghanaian culture. Just close to the end of the occassion, Nana Yaw Kennedy and Nana Adjoa Kour took to the floor to talk to the gathering and was entouraged by strange and popular faces.

Nana Adjoa Kour started a speech by apologising on behalf of Nana Baffour Awuah who was said to have insulted Ghanaians in a dispute with Nana Akosua Agyapompaah (Asanteman Kuo Hemaa) It then came to the turn of Nana Yaw Kennedy to address the crowd. He explained the reason for his long absence from public gathering to his health and emphasized his desire to nominate someone to help in the excise of his duties. Asanteman Association Inaugurated

He went on to declare Nana Baffour Awuah as Nkosuohene of GIF (Ghanaians in France) Nana Yaw Kennedy’s address and subsequent enstoolment of Nana Baffour, did not go well with all the Nananom of GIF.

There were some agitations from some of elders of GIF as to if Nana Kennedy has the right to nominate someone without their approval. Nana Ato Smith Mfante Kuo Hene of GIF was of the opinion that Nana Kennedy has the right to do that. He said “it is only a Chief who can nominate a sub chief, but not leaders of associations”

GiF Nananom remain divided over this issue.

Is this enough to divide our community who has almost nothing to boast of in common apart from some few Black Stars shining in their various corners? We hope that Nkosuohene will bring progress and understanding into GiF.
