We felt privileged and we were in the clouds, last night, at the 19th floor Skyline Lounge of the prestigious Mélia Paris la Defense Hotel! What an awesome time in the company of the new Minister of Education of Ghana, Honourable Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh (a.k.a. NaPo)! Despite his busy meeting schedule and engagements in Paris, he managed to spend quality time with us at this Afterwork event. It was great to hear him throw more light on the new Education policy and prospects for Ghana – free SHS, incentives for teachers, Wi-Fi connections in secondary schools, etc. and most important to us, the popularization of French language in Ghana! Ahh, il était temps!

We felt more admiration for him after he shared his personal life experience with us. Like most of us in the diaspora, Minister NaPo had his fair share of young adult life struggles in a foreign land – financial difficulties, odd jobs palavers, betrayals, battling with severe weather conditions, etc. His story resonated with us, so much so that after the event, we literally felt a surge of hope invade us … body, soul and spirit! 

His reassurances to us, as young Franco-Ghanaian professionals, graduates, students … and … hasslers, were so soothing, it felt like eating ice cream in a hot summer afternoon! 
His final advice to us sank deep into the mind: persevere in life, have clear objectives, work hard, pursue excellence, and endeavour to put a smile on someone else’s face, no matter what life throws your way.

Thank you Minister Napo! The message is loud and clear! Henceforward, we will pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and no longer allow our background to put our backs on the ground! We are reassured! There is hope! The struggle we face today is developing the strength we need for tomorrow … and we know, by perseverance, everything reaches its target!

So help us God!
